Having won the first prize at the Hannover International Competition in 1997 and the second prize at the Paganini International Competition in 1992, Michiko Kamiya has appeared as a soloist with renowned orchestras such as the London Philharmonic, the NDR Symphony, the Stockholm Chamber, the New Zealand Symphony and the Singapore Symphony Orchestras , amongst many others, as well as almost all the orchestras in her native Japan, including the NHK Symphony Orchestra.
She has performed with celebrated conductors such as Charles Dutoit, Myung-Whun Chung and Rudolf Barshai, amongst others. She has been a guest at the Aspen, the Verviers, the Ravinia and the Kuhmo International Music Festivals. Her debut double-disc CD from Naxos won an international acclaim.
Her versatility made her to be a sort after chamber music artist. She has performed with distinguished artists such as Regis Pasquier, David Geringas, Olivier Charlier, Emmanuel Strosser, Stefan Dohr and the Tokyo String Quartet. She also is Musical Director of the Ensemble Art Vivant, a chamber orchestra founded in Tokyo in 2020.
After completing the Soloist Diploma Course at the Toho Gakuen School of Music under Koichiro Harada, she continued her study with Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School of Music in New York and with Gyorgy Pauk in London. Having taught at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris, Michiko Kamiya is professor at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo.
