TATIANA SAMOUIL, BIOGRAPHY
ABOUT TATIANA
One of the most inspiring violinists of our time, Tatiana Samouil is constantly in demand as a soloist, recording artist, and teacher.
“Samouil’s willing, passionate and inspiring playing is a direct continuation of the best traditions of the Russian violin school” (“Kultura”, Moscow, June 2002).
TRAINING AND COMPETITIONS
Born into a family of prominent musicians, Tatiana was constantly surrounded by music. At the age of three she was already playing the piano, and only two years later discovered the violin. At this age she also showed an interest in composing her own music.
The key moment for her came when she was nine years old. She made her debut with the National Orchestra of Moldova, under the direction of her father, the conductor Alexandru Samouil, and was so moved by this experience that she decided to devote herself to the violin.
Tatiana Samouil was selected by the Russian program “New Names” at the age of fourteen and began a tour of the most prestigious concert halls in Russia and Europe, performing also at the United Nations headquarters, in the Vatican at the residence of Pope John Paul II, in Geneva and for the UNESCO in Paris.
She moved to Moscow as a young girl to study with the legendary Maya Glezarova at the prestigious Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. There she graduated as a soloist “with extraordinary distinction”. She then moved to Belgium to continue her studies with the great Igor Oistrakh at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels.
Under his direction, Tatiana Samouil won seven of the most prestigious international violin competitions in only three years, including the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow (2002), the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels (2001), the Michael Hill International Competition in New Zealand (2001) and the Jean Sibelius International Violin Competition in Helsinki (2000).
CAREER
Currently, she performs all over the world, despite suffering a near-fatal accident in 2014. She was hospitalized for a long time, not knowing if she would be able to walk or play the violin again. Her recovery is nothing short of miraculous. Tatiana’s comeback concert took place live in the prestigious Salle Gaveau in Paris and was recorded by French television.
This season she will perform at the Konzerthaus in Berlin, the Seoul Art Center and the Flagey Concert Hall in Brussels, as well as in New York, Amsterdam, Izmir, Istanbul and Buenos Aires.
