Bruno Rigutto – Biography

 

Bruno Rigutto studied piano at the Conservatoire de Paris in the class of Lucette DESCAVES, chamber music with Jean HUBEAU, composition and conducting.

After graduating from the Conservatory, he is laureate of the competitions Marguerite LONG in Paris and TCHAïKOVSKI in Moscow chaired, by Emil GILELS.

At the age of seventeen, he met Samson FRANçOIS, of whom he was the only disciple for ten years.

Bruno RIGUTTO quickly began an international career, invited by the greatest conductors : Carlo Maria GIULINI, Gerges PRETRE, Lorin MAAZEL, Leonard BERNSTEIN, Zdenek MACAL, Serge BAUDO, Kurt MASUR, Marc SOUSTROT, Antonello ALLEMANDI…

Bruno RIGUTTO dedicates a great part of his work to chamber music, through which he draws the substance recquired for his rechearches. His partners were Isaac STERN, Mstislav ROSTROPOVICH, YO YO MA, Barbara HENDRICKS, Michel PORTAL, Brigitte ENGERER, Laurent KORCIA, Pierre AMOYAL, Jean-pierre WALLEZ, Henri DEMARQUETTE, Alexander KNYAZEV, Augustin DUMAY, Gérard CAUSSé, Truls MORK, the quartets DEBUSSY and MODIGLIANI…

His discography is important. He recorded more than fifty disks for DECCA, EMI, FORLANE, DENON, LYRINX, and obtained several Grand Prix du disque and one Victoire de la musique. The year 2014 saw the realisation of a disc box of most of his DECCA recordings, from BACH to PROKOFIEV. Recently, he recorded the integral of CHOPIN’s nocturnes, for APARTé (2020).

Conductor and composer, he created the original sountracks for several movies and theater.

He was made Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur in 2007.

Teaching takes an important role in his life : he taught for over twenty years at the Conservatoire National de Paris, where he succeeded to Maestro Aldo CICCOLINI. He formed many young soloists, who now lead an international carreer : Kotaro FUKUMA, Romain DESCHARMES, Romain HERVé, Guillaume COPPOLA, Etsuko HIROSE, Lise DE LA SALLE, Claire-Marie LE GUAY, François DUMONT…

In addition to national summer academies (Nice Internatonal Academy, MusicAlp in Tignes, etc), he is regularly invited to lead masterclasses in Europe, China, Korea and Japan (TOHO Gakuen College, Nagoya, etc).

He now teaches at the Ecole Normale Alfred Cortot de Paris, and also gives interpretation lessons and preparation for the international competitions at the Schola Cantorum de Paris.

Since ten years, he gives some Master classes at the Lisztomania festival of Chateauroux and at the Institute Franz Liszt in Paris.
